The 7th Master's degree in Social Economy (MES) organised by the Virtual University of Barcelona is set up as the Master's degree for the Social Enterprise which is presented with the desire to contribute to the professionalisation of the sector. Following the course of evolution of modern societies, an economic reality is being developed between the market and the state, the Social Economy and the Third Sector, which is realised by paying attention to social groups with any type of handicap and by means of help centres and institutions. This is an example of a dynamic reality that is emerging to satisfy the citizens' progressive demands for social welfare. The MES proposes an integral-theoretic and applied training - with contents, skills and values, aimed at those responsible for managing associations, foundations, NGOs, cooperatives, employee-owned companies and companies in general, which have been incorporated with a social objective, which is realised by rendering personal services related to the health, education, cultural, and social services areas, etc. The growing importance of employee-owned companies, in qualitative and quantitative terms, is an unstoppable reality in employment and creation of wealth.
Organisations are dynamic structures that evolve. This master's degree also provides existing techniques related to the management of employee-owned companies. These techniques must make it easier for the organisation CEO's and directors to orientate their institutions towards global efficiency based management. It is a multidisciplinary master's degree given by a group of university professors and experts from different specialities. It is a multicultural master's degree, consequently it accepts students who can write in English, French, Portuguese, Italian and Spanish languages. It is a master's degree that anyone who can read and understand written texts in Spanish can have access to. On-line technology is preferably going to be used although it can be defined as a blended master's degree as it combines distance education with three attendance sessions.
