Democratizing the Welfare State. Revisiting the Third
Sector and State in Democratic and Welfare Theory:
Victor Pestoff is a Professor of Political Science at the University
of Mid-Sweden in Ostersund. We have published a chapter from a new
book that Pestoff is writing on this CIES website. The main thesis is
the need to foster non-profit organisations as school of democracies as
a mechanism to guarantee the consolidation of political democracies in
the world.

Results of the second phase of a macro-project led by Prof. Lester
Salamon from the John Hopkins University during the nineties. The
