Women in Industrial Research. Analysis of Statistical Data and Good Practices of Companies:
Study on the presence of women in research. Its reading reveals that the presence of women is very low in all countries of the OECD. There can be four main causes: 1) the entry barrier as a result of persisting prejudices; 2) the perception by women of a hostile labour climate; 3) few women in high executive posts in the field of science and engineering and 4) the existence of labour conditions that make it difficult to combine family life with working life. The research indicates that the main cause for a lack of action by the 29 companies is the lack of motivation. Their directors still do not assume the possibility that investing in the career of women in science is beneficial for companies. The business directors consider that they are carrying out a policy of neutrality. However, as the authors of the research point out, with this policy of "neutrality" the specific characteristics of women's and men's employment are ignored. This situation can lead to the existence of indirect indiscrimination. In the conclusions section, emphasis is placed on the fact that in the companies' gender equality policies no mention is made of recommendations aimed at men, when many of the problems discussed when talking about women and the labour market are not problems of "women" but of the reconciliation between the different spheres that make up the lives of all people. A summary of this document in Spanish can be found in the Electronic Bulletin of CIES no. 21, prepared by Dr. Monica Gelambi, responsible for dynamising the Gender Management module in the CSR Master's degree of the University of Barcelona.
